SUNY Canton Hosts CIA Analyst for Law Enforcement Day, April 20

CANTON, NY (04/15/2015)(readMedia)-- SUNY Canton's Criminal Justice Department has chosen "Emerging Issues in Homeland Security" as the theme for the fifth annual Law Enforcement Day.

All presentations will be held April 20 in SUNY Canton's Kingston Theater. A variety of experts in the field are invited to speak at the event.

The day's keynote address will be made by Cynthia Storer, who was a member of the sisterhood of CIA intelligence analysts whose work was crucial to the U.S. effort against Osama bin Laden. Their work led to locating bin Laden in a safe house in Pakistan. Her work with the CIA is featured in the HBO documentary "Manhunt: The Search for bin Laden." Storer is an internationally recognized expert on radical Islam and terrorism. She continues to provide analysis training and education to federal, state and local agencies and teaches at the university level. She is also a consultant with the International Spy Museum in Washington, D.C.

The schedule for Law Enforcement Day is:

• A Coast Guard Investigative Service presentation at 9:30 a.m.

• A U.S. Customs and Border Protection presentation at 11 a.m.

• A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement presentation at 1 p.m.

• Storer's keynote presentation at 3 p.m., followed by a meet-and-greet with the speaker.

Law Enforcement Day is held as an extra learning opportunity for students in the criminal justice programs. Other interested parties, including other students, members of the law enforcement community and members of the public, are also encouraged to attend the free presentations.

SUNY Canton offers a bachelor of technology program in Homeland Security that provides students with the theory and practical skills necessary to understand challenges faced by the homeland security enterprise. This is offered in addition to the college's Criminal Investigation and Law Enforcement Leadership programs.
