CANTON, NY (03/02/2015)(readMedia)-- The Wounded Warrior Project will be holding a Sled Hockey Tournament starting at 11 a.m. Friday, March 6, at SUNY Canton's Convocation Athletic and Recreation Center.

There will be a total of 15 tournament-style games on Friday and Saturday, culminating in the consolation and championship games Sunday morning. The tournament champion will be decided at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, March 8. The team from Fort Drum features U.S. Paralympic Gold Medalists Adam Page and Paul Schaus.

Instead of traditional skates, players use a specially made sled to glide across the ice. They propel themselves using two small hockey sticks. The extra equipment allows veterans who are missing limbs, or are otherwise disabled, to compete.

The tournament is sponsored by the Society for American Military Engineers, the Canton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1231 and Canton Knights of Columbus, Sarto Council 1059.

The event is free and open to the public; however, donations will be accepted at the door and there will also be a 50/50 raffle and chuck-a-puck fundraisers. Memorabilia from the National Hockey League will be raffled off and sold during a silent auction.
