SUNY Canton Offers Expanded Course Selection at Akwesasne
CANTON, NY (12/21/2009)(readMedia)-- SUNY Canton will begin offering three classes at the Akwesasne St. Regis Mohawk Indian Reservation during the Spring 2010 Semester.
"These classes were created following the success of the Casino Management course offered during the fall semester," said Kathryn M. Del Guidice, Director of the Center for Lifelong learning. "We have a great interest in helping the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe provide higher education opportunities for its people, and tribal leaders have expressed an interest in our courses."
The College will be hosting an informational and registration session from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 4, and on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Administration Building. All three courses will be offered at the same location.
The courses offered are as follows:
- A three-credit Introduction to Business course taught by Associate Professor Charles R. Fenner, PhD., will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. The course is a survey of business and includes concepts of production, marketing, finance, and human resources management.
- A four-credit Accounting Principles course taught by Instructor Christa Kelson, will be held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. each Tuesday. The course covers basic accounting concepts and principles for the sole proprietorship and merchandising company, with a concentrated emphasis on the accounting cycle and financial statement preparation.
- A three-credit Expository Writing course taught by Adjunct Instructor Michelle Currier will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays. The course is designed to help students communicate more effectively through various forms of informational writing. Students will be introduced to basic research skills, recognizing audiences, and editing techniques.
All courses will begin along with SUNY Canton's on-campus and online spring semester on January 25, 2010. Enrollment is limited in each of the three courses.
