POTSDAM, NY (05/31/2013)(readMedia)-- The latest of a series of shared positions between St. Lawrence County's two State University of New York campuses will help solidify infrastructure and back-end operations.

Kyle A. Brown, a 2003 SUNY Potsdam graduate and the former director of Information Services at SUNY Canton, has been appointed the Chief Information Officer for both campuses. In the new role, Brown will also oversee the Computing and Technology Services department at SUNY Potsdam.

"It is an excellent move for both campuses to have one director who will combine our strengths," said Shared Vice President for Business Affairs and Administration Natalie L. Higley. "The newly-created position will help us, as we look to expand the technological infrastructure on both campuses."

The two colleges are investigating the creation of a shared services center, which would create opportunities to benefit other North Country SUNY institutions by sharing expertise, providing efficiency and expanding service offerings for other campuses.

Brown, a 2003 graduate of SUNY Potsdam's computer science program, previously served as the director of information services and director of SUNY Canton OnLine. He will dedicate half of his time to both colleges, and will report to Higley. Brown is a member of the SUNY Information Technology Transformation Team, as well as the Chancellor's Online Learning Advisory Group.

Following Brown's appointment, SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Canton will now seek to hire a shared Chief Technology Officer, a new position that would benefit both campuses.

"We are entering an exciting time in SUNY," Brown said. "We have an opportunity to develop university-wide and regional initiatives that will transform the way our campuses do business, and expand quality support services for our students and faculty."

In addition to his bachelor's degree from SUNY Potsdam, Brown earned his Master of Science Degree from Clarkson University, Potsdam.

In addition to Brown, the campuses share the following administrators: Vice President Higley, Compliance Training Officer Stacey Basford, Interlibrary Loan Specialist Glen Bogardus, Life Safety Systems Manager Tony Caracciolo, Human Resources Director Mary Dolan, Chief of Police John Kaplan, Veteran's Affairs Officer Patrick Massaro and Environmental Health & Safety Director Calvin Smith.
