SUNY Canton to Host Two Solar Energy Training Workshops

CANTON, NY (02/04/2015)(readMedia)-- The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority is sponsoring two solar training workshops Wednesday, Feb. 11, and Thursday, Feb. 12, at SUNY Canton's Career Ready Education and Success Training (CREST) Center.

Safety Workshop Feb. 11

This free workshop, to be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., will train firefighters and rescue personnel about the safety precautions and fire code considerations for solar photovoltaic systems. Topics will include solar technology identification, disconnection methods and code requirements. The workshop will also address how to safely access ventilation, as well as techniques to locate and identify disconnect switches, conduits and conductors, and battery backup systems. Inspection Workshop Feb. 12

This workshop, to be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will train electrical and building code officials, including third-party contract inspectors, about the equipment commonly found in solar photovoltaic systems. Topics will also include utilizing local electrical and building codes in the permitting and inspection processes. The cost is $14.65 per person and participants will earn six in-service credits through the New York State's Building Standards and Codes Division.
