SUNY Canton's Online Programs Make U.S. News and World Report's 'Best Bachelor's Degrees' List

CANTON, NY (02/27/2017) (readMedia)-- SUNY Canton's online baccalaureate programs have been named among the best in the country for a third time by U.S. News and World Report.

The college was one of only three SUNY schools to earn a spot in this year's rankings. Programs were scored on various categories including student engagement, faculty credentials and training, student services, admissions selectivity, and peer reputation.

"This recognition is a reflection of the time and resources SUNY Canton has invested into the quality of our online classes and programs throughout the past 15 years," said President Zvi Szafran. "This award, along with our consistent online enrollment growth, is a direct result of that investment."

The college was ranked 76th out of the more than 1,200 programs surveyed by U.S. News. Only regionally accredited institutions whose programs were offered in an online format were evaluated.

SUNY Canton currently offers 13 online degree programs and recently announced the launch of a Bachelor of Business Administration in Agribusiness Management, which can also be earned online. The program is designed to prepare students for skilled careers in agriculture.

"It's important that we offer the option for students to earn their degree entirely online," Szafran added. "Professionals who want to continue their education while working full time will benefit from the flexibility of our programs."

In addition to new degree programs, the college has seen an increase in enrollments for its winter and summer off-term online sessions. In January, enrollment for the Winterterm session reached an all-time record for the third consecutive year. Students from both public and private colleges in New York and throughout the country utilize the sessions to fulfill requirements at their home institutions.

"Our off-term sessions deliver the same quality instruction SUNY Canton is known for to anyone, anywhere in an accelerated format," said Molly A. Mott, associate provost and dean of academic support services and instructional technologies, "The abbreviated course schedule allows students to catch up or get ahead between traditional fall and spring semesters."
