SUNY Delhi Announces Presidential Scholars

DELHI, NY (09/25/2015)(readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi has named seven leading students as Presidential Scholars for the 2015-16 academic year.

These select students are enrolled in the college's honors program, which is designed to recognize, reward and inspire its highest achieving students. Each student received a scholarship to cover the cost of full tuition to attend SUNY Delhi.

"Admission to SUNY Delhi is becoming increasingly selective and our Presidential Scholars represent our best and brightest students," said SUNY Delhi President Candace S. Vancko. "I am pleased to reward their academic achievements and provide them with unique and challenging educational opportunities as Presidential Scholars."

Attending SUNY Delhi as Presidential Scholars this fall are:

• Tristan Bowker – a Restaurant and Food Service Management major from Walton

• Elizabeth Brown– a Nursing major from Walton

• Gavin Cobb – an Environmental Studies major from Schenevus

• Samantha Maidens – a Veterinary Science Technology major from Schenevus

• Kaeli Norton – a Nursing major from Hancock

• Mayerlin Pimentel Nunez – an Architectural Technology major from the Bronx

• Joseph Terrano – a Criminal Justice Studies major from Oneonta

To be eligible, students must rank within the top 15 percent of their graduating class, earn a Regents Diploma with a minimum average of 88 percent, and submit a 350 to 500 word essay highlighting their extracurricular activities and achievements. Presidential Scholars must maintain a G.P.A. of 3.3 while attending SUNY Delhi to continue their scholarship status.

SUNY Delhi's honors program is designed for students who seek a greater academic challenge given their ability and personal motivation. Qualified students are challenged through specially designed honors courses in the humanities and social sciences, as well as through courses in their major.
