SUNY Delhi Four-Year Construction Management Degree Approved

DELHI, NY (01/29/2011)(readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi will offer a new four-year degree program in Construction Management: Design and Build, beginning the Spring 2011 semester, following approval by the State University of New York and the New York State Education Department.

"SUNY Delhi offered the first construction curriculum in America beginning in 1933," said SUNY Provost John S. Nader. "We built on the program's historical strengths to create a new baccalaureate program that responds to the employment needs of the industry."

SUNY Delhi piloted the Construction Management program as an option to its Architecture Design and Building program in 2006. Due to overwhelming placement of graduates-100 percent entered jobs following graduation-the college pursued approval to offer it as an academic major.

SUNY Delhi's Construction Management has an advantage over other programs of its type by offering a unique blend of architecture, liberal arts, mathematics, science, construction management, and business management courses. Graduates earn a Bachelor of Technology degree.

Students also benefit from Delhi's extensive industry partnerships. Industry leaders, such as Hayward Baker, Clark Companies, JET Industries, The Delaney Group, Turner Construction Company, BBL Construction Services and C & S Companies, allow Delhi students to put their practical knowledge to work through extensive internship opportunities, many of which have led to employment for Delhi construction majors. Partnerships with the Associated General Contractors of America, Charles A. Gaetano Construction Corporation, The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company and Peter Kiewit Sons', Inc. provide student scholarships and resources for the program.

Graduates are qualified to proceed directly to employment as entry-level field superintendents, project managers, estimators, project engineers, field engineers, schedulers/expeditors, and field inspectors, or they may start their own construction business. They may also pursue a Masters in Construction Management, MBA or a graduate-level degree in another field.

SUNY Delhi has a long-standing reputation as a premier instructional program for all aspects of building construction technology and related areas. Faculty are experienced contractors with first-hand experience in the construction industry. The college also offers a Construction Technology Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) program, which is nationally accredited by the American Council for Construction Education.
