DELHI, NY (10/15/2011)(readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi's "Go Green" themed programming is helping students, faculty, staff and the community make healthier choices during the month of October.
The Delhi Farmer's Market has come to campus and brings an array of local produce and products, such as fruits, vegetables, maple syrup, honey, cheese, flowers, yogurt and more each Wednesday in October from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Farrell Student and Community Center. Parking is available for visitors on campus during each Farmer's Market.
Sponsored by the College Association at Delhi, Inc. (CADI) and the O'Connor Center for Community Engagement (OCCE), the weekly event was created to help extend the market season. "We have been very pleased with the turnout of vendors and shoppers," said Elizabeth Sova, coordinator for the O'Connor Center for Community Engagement. "We are thrilled that the campus and community have supported it."
In addition, the college will host a multi-media presentation by renowned Peabody-winning filmmaker, writer and public speaker Curt Ellis on Thursday, October 20 at 12:30 p.m. in The Okun Theatre, Farrell Student and Community Center. Ellis' presentation is free and open to the public.
Ellis co-created and appeared in the documentary King Corn, which has been featured in several publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post and Congressional Quarterly, and on NPR, CBS, ABC and CNN. He continues to travel and speak about the connections between farm policy, large-scale corn production, family farm loss, and obesity. In 2007, Ellis produced the documentary The Greening of Southie and has also produced and directed Big River, a 30-minute documentary exploring the water quality impacts of high-intensity farming in the Midwest.
