DELHI, NY (10/15/2011)(readMedia)-- Graduates of SUNY Delhi's Veterinary Science Technology program scored above the national average on the recent Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE).
Delhi graduates who took the exam for the first time during July and August 2011 achieved an 86 percent pass rate, compared to the national average of 81 percent.
"It's fitting that a program celebrating its fiftieth year is reaffirming its stature as one of the nation's very best Veterinary Technology programs," said SUNY Delhi Provost John Nader.
The Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) is owned and administered by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards. The VTNE is used to evaluate entry-level veterinary technicians' competency to practice and to be credentialed. Most states and provinces require a passing score on the VTNE as one criterion for credentialing. The exam is administered as a computer-based exam three times a year throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Established in 1961, SUNY Delhi's Veterinary Science Technology Program (A.A.S.) is the oldest of its type in the United States. Since its inception, it has developed into a dynamic, nationally recognized program. Hands-on instruction prepares Delhi graduates as technical personnel for a career in the biomedical and veterinary medical fields. The program's laboratory facilities are unmatched and feature the only two-year program with a campus primate colony. Internship opportunities with NASA, Rockefeller University, the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell and Boehringer Ingelheim, have also helped distinguish Delhi's Veterinary Science Technology degree as one of the nation's preeminent programs.
In addition to the A.A.S., SUNY Delhi offers a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) in Veterinary Technology Management. This four-year program is offered online and is designed to allow students to gain the knowledge, information, and skills necessary to practice as a veterinary manager or hospital administrator.
SUNY Delhi's Veterinary Science Technology (A.A.S.) program and its Veterinary Technology Management (B.B.A.) program are fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
