SUNY Delhi Greek Organization to Host Softball Tournament Charity Fundraiser
DELHI, NY (03/31/2010)(readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi fraternity Tau Delta Chi (TDX) will host its ninth annual softball tournament to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on Saturday and Sunday, May 8-9, beginning 9 a.m. at the Richard Brown Athletic Field adjacent to Pizza Hut.
SUNY Delhi students will solicit sponsors and donations from the Delhi area in the weeks leading up to the event. "Our brotherhood," said TDX President Jordan Hernandez, "is dedicated to service that benefits both the Delhi campus and surrounding community. The softball tournament is a special event because it unites students and locals in favor of a great cause, and even leaves room for some fun in the process."
Last year, the TDX Softball Tournament Fundraiser was a tremendous success, raising over $6,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. A number of area businesses donated money, gift certificates and other items, including D & D Trophies Company in Afton , NY .
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, as well as improve the quality of life for patients and their families. Since its founding in 1949, the society has provided more than $240 million for research specifically targeting blood-related cancers.
Tau Delta Chi is a SUNY Delhi recognized Greek organization with an alumni base of over 175 brothers. TDX has participated in many community service events, including the Crop Walk, Memory Walk for the Alzheimer's Association, American Red Cross blood drives, and Daffodil Days for the American Cancer Society. Most recently, TDX and the Sigma Omega Epsilon Sorority co-hosted the Delhi Olympics, where students participated in competitive sports in order to benefit the Help for Haiti initiative.
