SUNY Delhi Honors Adjunct Faculty for Excellence in Teaching with First Annual Dennis Callas Award

DELHI, NY (06/23/2010)(readMedia)-- Rhonda Harrow-Engel is the first recipient of the Dennis Callas Award for Excellence in Teaching, which honors outstanding adjunct faculty. Harrow-Engel was formally presented with the award by President Candace S. Vancko at SUNY Delhi's Employee Appreciation Day ceremony on May 24.

Harrow-Engel has taught art classes at SUNY Delhi since 1994 and has developed courses for SUNY Delhi in Freehand Drawing, Ceramics and Art Appreciation. The experience and knowledge she brings to the classroom as a working studio artist is one of her greatest strengths.

Professor Emeritus Robert Henault, a colleague and a student of Rhonda's, said "Rhonda believes that every student has the potential to succeed and that is always reflected in her demeanor in the classroom." Her advice to students is always specific and constructive, and her students are able to vastly improve their skills within one semester."

Harrow-Engel continually seeks out opportunities for Delhi students to display their work at arts shows, in the college's library, and at the Best of SUNY Art Student Exhibition Series. SUNY Delhi is the only technology sector college to have student works selected for the Best of SUNY exhibit. She also supervises many open studio hours so that students can devote extra time on their projects and improving their technique.
