SUNY Delhi Hosts NYSACAC Camp College

DELHI, NY (08/06/2015)(readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi will host 150 rising juniors and seniors from high schools across the state as part of the New York State Association for College Admissions Counseling (NYSACAC) Camp College August 7-9. This is the largest number of students to attend the event to date.

"As a mentor for Camp College since 2004, it has been my longtime goal to bring Camp College to my alma mater," said Rob Piurowski '02, SUNY Delhi Director of Admissions. "Programs like Camp College work well with SUNY Delhi's mission of student success through achievement, civic engagement and experiential learning. The opportunity for these bright and charismatic young adults to live and breathe a campus environment is invaluable."

College Camp participants will learn from team building group sessions with assistance from 30 volunteer mentors. They will also have the opportunity to attend simulated college courses in accounting, hospitality, carpentry, and construction. Students will learn the college process, focusing on finding their fit and what is most important about admissions and financial aid.

"As one of our flagship programs, Camp College inspires students from throughout New York State to dream big and develop the tools to achieve greatness," said Kristen Capezza, NYSACAC President. "I am energized by the dedication of my colleagues, the students that attend Camp College, and the support of our member institutions like SUNY Delhi."

Since the summer of 2000, Camp College has changed the lives of young college-bound students throughout New York State, and beyond. Camp College's aim is to help provide access to a higher education for all students and get them prepared for the college process that lies ahead. For students, there is no cost to attend Camp College. Students are selected through a competitive application process.

The New York State Association for College Admissions Counseling (NYSACAC) is the state affiliate of the National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC), the only professional association composed of members from secondary schools, community-based organizations, colleges and universities.
