DELHI, NY (04/11/2015)(readMedia)-- Erica McKee, LVT, Instructional Support Associate (ISA) for SUNY Delhi's Veterinary Science Technology program, has been named New York State Veterinary Technician of the Year by the New York Association of Veterinary Technicians (NYSAVT). She will be honored at the organization's Annual Spring Seminar, April 11, in Saratoga Springs.

"Erica has shown tremendous dedication to the veterinary profession through her involvement at the State Board of Veterinary Medicine, New York State Association of Veterinary Technicians, and especially to the students in the Veterinary Technology program at SUNY Delhi," said Bret Meckel, DVM, Department Chair/Professor of Veterinary Science Technology at SUNY Delhi. "This is a most well-deserved award."

McKee was selected for this honor based on her dedication and commitment to NYSAVT. A member of the organization for six years, she has been central to keeping SUNY Delhi's student chapter active as its advisor. Under her leadership, the student chapter has held many new activities and fundraisers and has worked in partnership with the local animal shelter, the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society.

McKee has committed a number of community service hours outside of her work responsibilities because she loves animals, but most of all, McKee says, to show students the importance of professional development.

McKee has served as an Instructional Support Associate at SUNY Delhi for the past four years and serves as the college's clinical coordinator for the Veterinary Science Technology program. She was appointed Technician Delegate to New York State Board for Veterinary Medicine (2014-2019). She holds an AAS in Veterinary Science Technology from SUNY Delhi and is working on completing her BBA in Veterinary Management.

SUNY Delhi's Veterinary Science Technology (AAS) program has been fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) since 1975. Since its inception, it has developed into a dynamic, nationally recognized program. Experiential instruction prepares Delhi graduates for a career in the biomedical and veterinary technology fields. Internship opportunities with NASA, Rockefeller University, the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell and private firms, have also helped distinguish Delhi's Veterinary Science Technology degree as one of the nation's preeminent programs.
