SUNY Delhi Nursing Graduates Exceed National and State Averages

DELHI, NY (11/08/2014)(readMedia)-- Recent graduates of SUNY Delhi's nursing program scored higher on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) than the current national and state averages.

Nursing students who graduated in May and took the exam for the first time received a pass rate of 86.96 percent, compared to the third quarter national pass rate of 82.86 percent and the New York State pass rate of 77.63 percent. Those who graduated from SUNY Delhi's dual degree program received a 100 percent pass rate.

"This outcome is an important measure of our program," said Dr. Mary Pat Lewis, Dean of the School of Nursing. "These rates are the result of the high level of teaching found at SUNY Delhi. It's why our graduates are so successful."

The NCLEX examinations are developed and administered by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. (NCSBN) and graduates are required for to pass in order to receive their license as either a practical or registered nurse. These examinations are computerized adaptive tests designed to evaluate a student's competency in knowledge, skills and practices necessary for an entry-level nurse.
