SUNY Delhi Students Take First Place in New York State Skills Contest

DELHI, NY (04/13/2012)(readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi students placed first in automotive service and first and second in carpentry skills competitions at the 14th annual New York State Postsecondary (college level) SkillsUSA competition on March 24 at Alfred State's School of Applied Technology, Wellsville.

SUNY Delhi winners of this year's New York State competition included:

Automotive Service

• First Place - Phil Bianchi, Montauk

Carpentry

• First Place – Jonathon Cusimano, Vestal

• Second Place - Andrew Marsh, Elmira Heights

The first place students, Bianchi and Cusimano, will represent SUNY Delhi in the National SkillsUSA Championship at the National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City in June. The Championship is the showcase for the best career and technical students in the nation. More than 12,500 students, teachers, education leaders, and representatives from more than 1,000 national corporations, trade associations, businesses and labor unions attend the event.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel. SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations.
