DELHI, NY (08/21/2015)(readMedia)-- Recent graduates of SUNY Delhi's Welding Technology program all took the New York State Department of Transportation Field Welder (NYSDOT) exam for the first time and achieved a 100 percent pass rate, compared to the state pass rate of 25-30 percent.

"The most recent U.S. Census has established that over 900,000 men and women in the nation are employed in the welding industry," said Provost John Nader. "These exam results illustrate why Delhi welding graduates rise to the top in a well populated field."

All SUNY Delhi welding graduates are qualified for certification through the NYSDOT. They will be included on the department's list of eligible personnel and are able to erect and perform repairs for New York State.

NYSDOT administers the Field Welder exam to ensure the quality of its projects. All welder qualification tests are timed, conducted at approved locations, and witnessed by a designated State representative. The hands-on exam is rigorous, using x-ray technology to capture the exam taker's accuracy.

The Welding Technology program at SUNY Delhi offers a number of degrees and options for students interested in pursuing welding. Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) and Associate in Occupational Studies (A.O.S.) degrees are available. Both degrees utilize lectures and extensive experiential learning.
