SUNY Delhi Will Celebrate Solar Completion

DELHI, NY (10/06/2011)(readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi will mark the completion of its new solar array project in a ceremony on Thursday, October 13, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the college's Electrical Technologies Center.

A newly-installed monitoring kiosk will be unveiled at the ceremony that illustrates the amount of power the solar array generates in real time. It also shows the total power generation since the system was installed.

Provost John Nader will welcome guests and Delhi's solar electric energy focus. Faculty will present on SUNY Delhi's new Integrated Energy Systems program, and photovoltaic classes and workshops available to students and the public. A short question and answer session will follow their presentation.

SUNY Delhi is accredited by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council for teaching the design and installation of solar electric systems as part of its Electrical Construction and Instrumentation curriculum. Delhi also offers photovoltaic training courses as a public service.

SUNY Delhi's solar array is a system of 100 solar electric modules that provide a permanent site for demonstrating renewable energy technology to students preparing for careers in electrical and building construction while offsetting a portion on the college's energy use. The project is thanks to a $172,000 grant by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). The modules will produce 22.4 kilowatts of energy collected through the solar panels and will offset up to 25 percent of the annual electric usage for the Electrical Technologies Center.

This event is free and open to the public. In the event of rain, the event will be held in the Electrical Technologies Center lounge.
