SUNY Delhi to Dedicate Wickham Information Commons

DELHI, NY (11/12/2010)(readMedia)-- Community and business leaders Richard and Marilyn Wickham of Delhi will be recognized for their $50,000 gift to establish the Wickham Information Commons in SUNY Delhi's Resnick Library and Learning Center Friday, November 12 at 2 p.m.

"We are extremely grateful to the Wickhams for their generosity," said SUNY Delhi President Candace S. Vancko. "They understand that SUNY Delhi plays an important role in the local community, and we look forward to celebrating the investments they have made in the future of our college and our students."

The Wickhams Information Commons is an area within the Resnick Library and Learning Center designated for student research and technology use. It offers 61 specially designed computer stations with comfortable seating and collaborative work space so students can work in groups. Eight wireless laptops are also available so that students may work together or independently. A mobile presentation cart allows students to plug in their laptops and project their presentations onto a flat screen TV. Technology and research support staff are available to answer questions.

The Wickhams have a legacy of supporting SUNY Delhi. They first established the Richard and Marilyn Wickham Scholarship in 1994. This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student studying Automotive Technology at Delhi. Mr. Wickham served on the College Council for 18 years and the College Foundation for 11 years. He is a member of the college's Advisory Council to the Automotive Technology program. As charter members of the College Golf Course at Delhi, the Wickhams contribute each year to the college's Educational Golf Tournament.

Richard and Marilyn have been married for 58 years, and for 40 of those years, worked together operating Wickham Sales and Service in Delhi. The family also started Wickham Fuel Oil in 1955, providing home heating services, gasoline, kerosene, and diesel to the community for 51 years. Mr. Wickham served in the United States Army in Korea and then worked for Bendix Aviation in Sidney, before joining the family car business in 1953.
