DELHI, NY (06/08/2010)(readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi will host the New York State High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Girls Golf State Championship June 11-13 at The College Golf Course at Delhi.
Now in its fifth year, the Girls Golf State Championship will welcome 75 players and 50 coaches from across New York State. Two-time defending Suzie Lee from Comack, Long Island, leads the list of returning participants. Rebecca Studin from Ithaca High School also returns, placing third in 2009. Four players from Horseheads High School also return to the tournament: Kendall and Kasey Harter, Katie McCann, and Emily Doyle.
"We're excited to come to such a great facility as SUNY Delhi," said Jamie Harter, Section IV Girls Golf Coordinator. "It's also an opportunity to introduce the players to Delhi's campus life."
While participating in the tournament, players will have full use of the college facilities. Contestants will stay in campus residence halls, eat their meals in the dining center, and practice and compete on Delhi's college championship course, an 18-hole golf course which serves as an academic laboratory for the college's professional golf management majors as well as students in the college's golf, turf and landscape-related programs.
"The championship participants will have full access to what our professional golf management students have at their disposal," said Dave Arehart, SUNY Delhi's golf professional and coach. "We hope to inspire these young players about the game, just as we inspire our students."
SUNY Delhi's professional golf management (PGM) program provides graduates with the training necessary to compete for the many exciting employment opportunities within the golf industry. Successful students earn a B.B.A. in Professional Golf Management, and the employment rate for SUNY Delhi graduates who continue in the golf business is 100 percent.
