SUNY Delhi to Launch New Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Management

DELHI, NY (06/15/2018) (readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi is launching a new Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree in Healthcare Management in response to a growing need for qualified personnel in the field both regionally and nationally.

The Healthcare Management degree will prepare students for careers in managing and overseeing clinic facilities, hospitals, retirement communities, and long-care facilities.

Healthcare management positions are expected to increase by 12.5% on a statewide basis, according to employment projections for 2014-2024 by the NYS Department of Labor. With the increase in the population in older age groups, more people in the labor force will be entering prime retirement age, leading to a predicted a 23% growth in the employment of medical and health services managers through 2024, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

"Our program will produce well-qualified candidates for these positions," said Dr. David Brower, Dean and Professor of the School of Business and Hospitality Management. "This degree helps to meet the employment demands of the industry and aligns well with SUNY Delhi's mission."

The new program leverages the strengths of SUNY Delhi's nursing and business programs, combining them into a healthcare management curriculum that provides both applied healthcare instruction as well as business and technology education.

"Our Healthcare Management degree is an opportunity for business students to go in healthcare management, or for nursing students to have a career in healthcare beyond direct patient care," said Barbara Sturdevant, Program Director and Professor of Business at SUNY Delhi.

Delhi's program will be particularly attractive to students because it offers a hybrid format. It may be completed partially online and partially on campus, appealing to non-traditional students and mid-career professionals interested in advancing their career with further academic accreditation.

The Healthcare Management program was designed and developed by SUNY Delhi faculty and staff with input from area hospitals, healthcare agencies, and human resources offices, ensuring its content meets industry expectations.
