SUNY Plattsburgh Celebrates Homecoming 2008 Oct. 17-19

PLATTSBURGH, NY (10/14/2008)(readMedia)-- A Hawaiian-themed dinner will cap off the festivities as SUNY Plattsburgh trades Cardinal red for colorful leis at Homecoming 2008, Oct. 17-19.

A weekend full of activities will give alumni the chance to reconnect with old friends and discover the Plattsburgh spirit all over again. More than 400 alumni are planning to attend, including some from the Class of 1934. Special celebrations are being held for the golden anniversary Class of 1958 and the silver anniversary Class of 1983, and special reunion brunches will be held for the classes of 1963, 1968, 1973 and 1978 as well.

Departmental open houses, Cardinal athletic and alumni games, receptions, tours and the Malcolm Lavery '64 Memorial Golf Outing will keep alums busy throughout the weekend.

"Our alumni will find ‘the Plattsburgh spirit' is what connects students and alumni of all ages," said Rose Anderson, director of alumni affairs.

"Homecoming is about inviting alumni home to visit their alma mater and to reconnect with classmates and faculty. It also allows us to showcase SUNY Plattsburgh through a variety of events," said Ronna T. Bosko, associate director of alumni affairs.

The fun doesn't end with alumni. It extends to current students as well. They are encouraged to take part in activities like academic alumni panels, an Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society panel, an Open Mic Coffee House and a game of Jeopardy where the Alumni Association will take on the Student Association.

Connecting students with alumni is part of the overall mission of the Office of Alumni Affairs, according to Anderson.

"The students are our future alumni, and what better way to introduce them to all our office has to offer but through Homecoming activities," said Anderson. "Homecoming is just one of the many ways our alumni and our students connect with one another. Through the Alumni Association, our students are introduced to a network of people that spans the globe and can provide support when it comes to careers and relocation. Students and alumni can support one another through our programs like Cardinal Connections and our Distinguished Visiting Alumni. Amazing things can happen when our alumni and our students join forces."
