SUNY Plattsburgh Literary Magazine Launches Second Print Edition

PLATTSBURGH, NY (04/30/2009)(readMedia)-- All Points North, SUNY Plattsburgh's print literary magazine, releases its second annual issue this week.

Editor-in-Chief Jennifer Taft said that All Points North print, created by students in the journalism department, "gives readers a tangible selection of stories that pertain to the North Country."

APN print is not to be confused with its sister publication APN online. The print version is only published once per year, while the online magazine is published twice per semester. The two include different stories intended for very different audiences.

"While the Internet is a great way to find information, it is nice to be able to hold something in your hands and carry it around with you," Taft said. "The nice thing about a print version is that people can pick it up and read it wherever they are; they don't need to go home and find a computer."

This year's special issue focuses on "play," featuring stories ranging from food play (hibachi) and fashion play (drag queens) to skydiving, video game designers, former gamblers, places to play in the Adirondacks, the Strand Theatre, and more.

"We chose 'play' because the staff recognized that people currently seem to be more stressed than they used to be, and we wanted to find something to counteract that. When people think of the word 'play,' it tends to bring about positive thoughts, and we wanted to create a fun and interesting issue that people would enjoy reading, and we would enjoy creating," said Taft.
