PLATTSBURGH, NY (03/30/2010)(readMedia)-- Ricochet Duo, with Rose Chancler (piano) and Jane Boxall (marimba) will perform a concert featuring the works of contemporary music composers April 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Krinovitz Recital Hall, Hawkins Hall.
Chancler, an adjunct music faculty member at SUNY Plattsburgh, and Boxall joined forces to form Ricochet Duo in 2008 after Chancler advertised on Craigslist, "seeking classical musicians for collaboration." Boxall was a United Kingdom expatriate living in Illinois at the time but planned to move to Vermont.
The two began their collaboration when they appeared on Chancler's Piano by Nature series. They have since been actively performing at universities, house concerts and other venues throughout the Northeast.
According to the pair, Ricochet Duo is dedicated to celebrating the music of the 21st century and actively promoting the works of living composers. In 2009, Richochet Duo was awarded a New York Women Composer's grant and received three new works from female composers, including "On Curious Reflection" composed specifically for Chancler and Boxall by Rain Worthington. The duo has cultivated a strong relationship with composer Marc Mellits and will be performing the 2009 work "Tight Sweater Remix" that he composed for them. In addition to these two pieces, the concert program will feature a variety of contemporary works for piano and marimba and a piece for solo marimba and electronics.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information about Ricochet Duo, visit www.ricochetduo.com

About Boxall:
Jane Boxall is an award-winning international concert artist. Born in southeast England, she studied percussion in Scotland with Ron Forbes, the previous teacher of superstar percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie. Deciding to study music while at college, Boxall spent most of the next three years in a cupboard at the University of York, where she got to practice marimba for the first time. Falling in love with the warm sound and the melodic possibilities of the instrument, Boxall went on to earn a master's degree in contemporary percussion performance, with a heavy focus on solo marimba music.
A marimba fanatic by day, Boxall spent her nights behind the drum kit. Her drumming with folk-grungers Heroic Trio was deemed "spectacular… powerful and impressive" by York's Vision magazine, while www.leedsmusicscene.co.uk noted Boxall as "one of the most inventive percussionists I've witnessed" during her tenure with Riot-Grrl trio Brutal Tinkerbell. Around this time, she also started teaching in local schools and was the percussion head honcho at Queen Margaret's School (York) and Leeds Grammar School.
In 2004, Boxall was offered the Swanson Fellowship for doctoral percussion studies at the University of Illinois. There she studied with renowned percussion professors William Moersch, Ricardo Flores, and Dana Hall. She also remained active as a teacher and was an adjunct percussion professor at Olivet Nazarene University, teaching several hundred students via Skins-n-Tins Drum Shop in Champaign, Ill., and the Illinois Summer Youth Music program.
In 2008 Jane left Illinois and relocated to Burlington, Vt., where she continued performing, recording and touring both regionally and internationally.
