SUNY Plattsburgh Special Collections participates in area Museum Day activities
SUNY Plattsburgh's Special Collections in Feinberg Library will show three local history films as part of the North Country's celebration of Museum Day June 6.
The films, to be shown continuously between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., are: "Northward to Freedom," a locally produced film created by the Red Hummingbird Foundation, highlighting Northeastern New York's Champlain Line of the Underground Railroad; "The Grand Adirondack Camps," an A&E production; and "A Proud Past, A Strong Future," a 1988 PSTV film that celebrates the 100th anniversary of the founding of SUNY Plattsburgh, written by Dr. Douglas Skopp, college historian, and Dores Candussi, former assistant professor of communication and PSTV faculty adviser.
Special Collections, located in the lower level of Feinberg Library on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus, will also host the North Country Underground Railroad Historical Association's display, "The John Thomas Story." John Thomas was an Adirondack pioneer and fugitive slave from Maryland who died a free citizen in New York's Franklin County.
Museum Day activities at Special Collections are part of a slate of activities planned at eight facilities around Clinton County, including the Champlain Valley Transportation Museum and Kids' Station; Clinton County Historical Association Museum; North Country Underground Railroad Historical Association; Kent-Delord House Museum; Battle of Plattsburgh Association; the Strand Theatre and North Country Cultural Center for the Arts; and the Alice T. Miner Museum. For a full schedule of museum events, visit www.plattsburgh.edu/library/specialcollections/index.php.
