POTSDAM, NY (11/12/2010)(readMedia)-- SUNY Potsdam, Canton-Potsdam Hospital and Clarkson University are contributing $105,000 to the Village of Potsdam toward the purchase of a new ladder tower fire truck.

Each institution will provide $35,000 to the village over the next five years to defray the cost of the new fire-fighting vehicle. The Village of Potsdam and Town of Potsdam each contributed $300,000 toward the purchase.

Clarkson University President Tony Collins, Canton-Potsdam Hospital President and CEO David Acker and SUNY Potsdam President John F. Schwaller met on Friday, Nov. 12, to present a symbolic check to Potsdam Fire Department Chief Tim Jerome, alongside village Mayor Ron Tischler and town Supervisor Marie Regan.

The new "Tower 5" is 101 feet tall, has enclosed seating for five firefighters, enhanced safety features and improved operating capabilities. It replaces a 1979 vintage 85-foot ladder truck.

The Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department says that the truck will serve the residents of Potsdam well for many years to come.
