POTSDAM, NY (04/17/2014)(readMedia)-- In a fitting lead-up to Earth Day, SUNY Potsdam will celebrate the ribbon cutting ceremony for the College's $8 million Combined Heat and Power Plant on Monday, April 21 at 1 p.m.

The cogeneration facility will reduce the College's energy use and shrink its carbon footprint, with the capability of providing between 70 and 100 percent of the campus's electrical power requirements. The SUNY Potsdam Combined Heat and Power Plant is one of the largest facilities of its kind in the state.

The sustainable initiative will significantly advance SUNY Potsdam's commitments to reduce its impact on the environment and on climate change.

At 1 p.m., there will be a tour of the plant, led by Assistant Vice President for Facilities and Planning Tony DiTullio, as well as the College's Energy Manager, Thomas Smith. Following the tour, there will be brief remarks from Interim President Dennis L. Hefner, followed by a green ribbon cutting, along with visiting officials from the SUNY Construction Fund.
