SUNY Potsdam Offers Free Seismology Workshops Again in 2017

Geology Professor Emeritus Dr. Frank Revetta Leads Free Educational Sessions at SUNY Potsdam

POTSDAM, NY (12/29/2016)(readMedia)-- SUNY Potsdam Geology Professor Emeritus Dr. Frank Revetta will offer a free series of educational seismology workshops again in 2017.

The seismology workshops will be held every Tuesday at 4 p.m., in the Revetta-NYPA Laboratory, located in Timerman Hall Room B23. The workshops will consist of a series of exercises, videos and experiments in geophysics and seismology.

Attendees will have the opportunity to interpret seismograms of both local and distant earthquakes, and learn how a seismograph works.

All are welcome to attend these free educational events, so please mark your calendars!

  • Feb. 21: "Northridge Earthquake"
  • Feb. 28: "Seismogram Interpretation: Northridge Quake"
  • March 7: "Tsunamis"
  • March 14: "Local Earthquakes: Video"
  • March 21: "Local Earthquakes: Exercise"
  • March 28: "Plate Tectonics"
