POTSDAM, NY (04/03/2015)(readMedia)-- SUNY Potsdam welcomes the North Country community to take part in the second annual Potsdam LGBT Pride Parade, on Saturday, April 11. Groups from campus and community will join together for this celebration of diversity and equality.

Parade registration will open at 1 p.m., and the kickoff will be at 2 p.m. The parade will begin in the Main Street public parking lot near Ives Park in downtown Potsdam, and will continue down Pierrepont Avenue to the SUNY Potsdam campus.

This year's grand marshall for the parade will be SUNY Potsdam President Kristin G. Esterberg. She will be recognized along with her family -- including her spouse Sue Bergmeier, and their daughters, Katie and Qiong Qiong. Last year's grand marshall, Miss Gay St. Lawrence County, Amber Skyy, will also take part in the parade once again.

Immediately following the parade, the College will host the first-ever Gay Pride Family Reunion in the Maxcy Hall Field House. Everyone is welcome to attend this gathering.

Students in Dr. John Youngblood's "LGBT Family Communications" course in the Department of English and Communication are organizing all aspects of this event.

The parade and reunion are both free and open to all in the community who wish to join in to learn from each other, and have fun.
