SUNY Potsdam Student Choreographers to Present Original Dance Works Next Week

SUNY Potsdam Department of Theatre and Dance Presents Student Choreographers' Concert from Dec. 5 to 7

POTSDAM, NY (11/24/2014)(readMedia)-- The SUNY Potsdam Department of Theatre and Dance will proudly present the 2014 Student Choreographers' Concert, including two programs of original dance works created and performed by students, from Dec. 5 to Dec. 7.

Two concerts of 10 pieces each will be presented in the Dance Theater, located in the SUNY Potsdam Performing Arts Center.

Performances of Concert A will be presented on Friday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. Concert B will be offered on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. and will close the series with a matinee on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. Doors will open 30 minutes before each performance.

For this series of concerts, 20 dance works have been choreographed by 14 participating SUNY Potsdam dance majors and minors. The genres of pieces run from the technically challenging to the thematically intriguing, from the highly kinetic to abstractly sculptural, and from laugh-out-loud comedic to highly dramatic. Stylistically, everything from jazz to ballet and contemporary to tap dance is represented.

The creation and development of each piece has been a rewarding collaborative process for the student choreographers, dancers and faculty involved. The dancers, of which there are more than 40, may come from diverse and varied backgrounds, with a wide range of skills and training, but all are enthused and excited to participate in the concerts.

The 2014 Student Choreographers' Concert is sponsored by SUNY Potsdam's Department of Theatre and Dance, and the College Dance Ensemble.

Admission is free, and tickets will only be available at the door beginning one hour before each performance. For more information, please contact the Department of Theatre and Dance at (315) 267-2556.
