POTSDAM, NY (03/10/2017) (readMedia)-- Allison Gilliam, center, who is working on her Master of Science in Teaching at SUNY Potsdam, works with Norwood Norfolk Central School juniors Olivia Enga, right, and Lily Parmeter, on Thursday, Feb. 9 at SUNY Potsdam's Sheard Literacy Center. Gilliam was talking to the students about the use of euphemisms in the book, "The Giver," as part of the Page to Stage workshop.

Local students are currently reading and studying the literary components of "The Giver" and will be treated to a stage performance of the novel on May 11 at SUNY Potsdam's Performing Arts Center. Gilliam taught 6th and 8th grade students in Alabama for 3 years before moving to the area when her husband, who's in the military, started working at Fort Drum.
