Scott Dosztan will be remembered in a memorial/celebration of life service on Saturday, Jan. 31 at SUNY Potsdam.

POTSDAM, NY (01/26/2015)(readMedia)-- SUNY Potsdam will welcome members of the community to honor the life and legacy of longtime radio news director Scott Dosztan at a memorial service this weekend.

A member of the Class of 1992, Dosztan studied English and theatre at SUNY Potsdam, but never completed his undergraduate degree. He was just a few courses shy of graduation when he left to pursue a career in radio.

Following a lifetime of service to his community, the late WPDM Radio news director has now been approved to receive a posthumous degree, after his sudden death on Jan. 7 at the age of 44.

SUNY Potsdam President Dr. Kristin G. Esterberg will award Dosztan's Bachelor of Arts degree at the service on Saturday. His longtime partner, and now fellow SUNY Potsdam alumnus, Mitch Bresett '09, will accept the degree.

Friends, colleagues and loved ones will be invited to share their memories at the service. In addition, the brothers of the Prometheus Fraternity will offer a special presentation in Dosztan's honor at the service

The journalist will also be honored with another special distinction during the ceremony. The Potsdam Humane Society will unveil a plaque that will soon be mounted in the animal shelter, naming its cat rooms in memory of Dosztan, who was a longtime volunteer and supporter.

Ceremony details:

The memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 3 to 5 p.m., in the Dunn Theater at SUNY Potsdam.

Dunn Theater is located in Dunn Hall, which is off of Barrington Drive. Parking will be available in Lots 1, 11 and 12. Visitors can find campus maps at www.potsdam.edu/about/visit/maps.cfm.
