SUNY Potsdam Alumni Raise More Than $1.4 Million for 2016 Reunion Class Gifts

POTSDAM, NY (07/07/2016)(readMedia)-- SUNY Potsdam will welcome more than 900 alumni and friends back to campus during the College's Bicentennial Reunion Weekend, from Thursday, July 14 to Sunday, July 17.

That's a record number of visitors for Reunion Weekend 2016 -- and many have chosen to give back to the institution they love. SUNY Potsdam alumni and friends have given a total of $1,446,868 in honor of 2016 class reunions, as of July 6.

Nine classes have exceeded their class giving goals this year, including:

  • The Class of 2011, celebrating their 5th Reunion, with $6,833
  • The Class of 2006, celebrating their 10th Reunion, with $2,098
  • The Class of 2001, celebrating their 15th Reunion, with $28,742
  • The Class of 1986, celebrating their 30th Reunion, with $57,394
  • The Class of 1981, celebrating their 35th Reunion, with $10,236

  • The Class of 1971, celebrating their 45th Reunion, with $47,480
  • The Class of 1966, celebrating their 50th Reunion, with $128,878

The 50-Year Club, which is made up of all classes from 1965 and earlier, has made more than $1 million in class gifts this past year, to benefit students and programs at SUNY Potsdam. This giving includes both outright gifts and the establishment of funds through planned or estate giving.

The Class of 2001 set a record with its class gift of $28,742, which is the most that has ever been given to SUNY Potsdam by a 15th Reunion class.

Many alumni honor their reunion celebration by going above and beyond their typical annual giving. All gifts from each class, regardless of designation, are counted in each class's reunion total.

Generous gifts from alumni show the great value they place on the education they received at SUNY Potsdam, and the College's important role in preparing them for success in life.

Gifts to the College's greatest needs support a variety of vital resources and financial support for research, student travel, equipment, technology, scholarships and so much more.
