47th Annual Summer Basketball Camp Partners with NIKE

The Summer Basketball Camp has partnered with NIKE Basketball camps to make this summer's session the best one yet. One of the most highly rated camps in the country, the camp will run July 16-19, directly following the SUNY Potsdam Alumni Reunion Weekend.

Leading the camp will be Bears men's and women's basketball coaches Jim Bechtel and Brittany Cohen. Hall of Fame coach and camp founder Jerry Welsh will be on hand once again. Welsh led Potsdam to a pair of National Championships, coached 14 first-team All-Americans and had a 60-game win streak during his tenure.

Each summer, close to 300 players learn skills and fundamentals through individual and group instruction from a staff of top college and high school coaches. The staff has earned a reputation for being one of the finest in the nation. Campers will develop offensive skills such as passing, ball handling, screening, perimeter and post moves, and shooting. Defensive skills, such as proper stance, positioning and defending as a unit are also stressed. The complete "team" concept is emphasized to all campers.

Having many of the campers from Canada gives this co-ed camp a truly international flavor. It may be one of the only basketball camps in the country where students from both countries have an opportunity to learn about their different cultures and play together. The camp welcomes commuters as well as overnight campers. Campers staying overnight are housed in SUNY Potsdam's residence halls and are closely supervised at all times. Meals are served in the Lehman Dining Hall three times daily to overnight campers. Commuters are also offered a meal each day at noon.

The camp is held on the campus of SUNY Potsdam, located in northern New York in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. Potsdam is situated about 60 miles northeast of Watertown and 140 miles from Syracuse. It is also close to the Canadian cities of Montreal and Ottawa and the Olympic village of Lake Placid, New York.

Campers can register online at http://www.ussportscamps.com/basketball/nike/suny-potsdam-summer-basketball-camp/. To receive more information about the Summer Basketball Camp, contact Coach Bechtel at 315/267-2308 or Coach Cohen at 315/267-3708.
