Safe Summer Initiative to kick off this Saturday in Livingston park

Anti-Violence Partners to relaunch Gun Buy-Back Program

ALBANY, NY (05/21/2012)(readMedia)-- Pastor Charlie Muller, District Attorney David Soares and the ENOUGH Program will partner with ShopRite, Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple and the Albany Police Department this Saturday for the Safe Summer Initiative in Livingston park. The event will be held on Saturday May 26, 2012 from 12:00 noon to 3:00pm which also marks the three year anniversary of the death of Katina Thomas. The Safe Summer initiative will be the re-launch of the ENOUGH Gun Buy-Back program which has been slowed in recent months due to a lack of funding. "In light of the recent shootings in Albany and the continued remembrance of Katina Thomas, we need to keep this program moving forward, and with the partnership of ShopRite, we will be able to do that". Pastor Charlie. "Despite what critics may say, this program works, just last week a mother from the City brought in a handgun she found in her son's bedroom, another gun was brought in that was found in a ceiling tile of an apartment in one of the worse areas in the city. This program works and if only one life is saved by this program, than it is all worth it". Since the inception of this program, we have taken in over 350 guns, that's 350 guns that will not end up in the wrong hands and that can't take a life". "This program is one that needs partners, we have run this program over the past three years with minimal funding, we need the funding to advertise the program and pay for the gift cards, with no funding there is no program. We so appreciate the willingness of partners like ShopRite, the Albany County District Attorney, The Albany County Legislature, Albany County Sheriff and the Albany police, together we can continue to make a difference in the community".

The goal with the ENOUGH Gun Buy-Back Program is to have a gun free Albany, to let people know that violence is never the answer, this will be the message this Saturday in Livingston Park.
