Saginaw's James Johnson Named HAAC Basketball Player of the Week

CANTON, MO (12/10/2012)(readMedia)-- Culver-Stockton College forward James Johnson was selected the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.

Johnson, a 6-foot-5 junior forward from Saginaw, Mich. (Heritage HS / Jackson CC) came off the bench in two victories for the Wildcats and helped the team to its first 3-0 start in conference play since the 2000-01 season. He averaged 20.0 points and 5.0 rebounds while shooting 56.5 percent from the floor, including a 8-of-16 clip (.500) from beyond the arc, to go along with 6-of-8 free throws.

The league's second-leading scorer, Johnson began the week with 21 points, four rebounds and two steals in a 73-66 win over Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) in non-conference play. He followed that up against Peru State with 19 points and six rebounds and hit four three-pointers for the second-straight game. Johnson is averaging 17.4 points per game and shooting 45.6 percent from the field. He is also second in the conference in three-point shots made per game (3.5) and 8th in three-point percentage (.376).

The Wildcats, who are currently 9-2 overall, are scheduled to play two home games this week. C-SC is slated to play Iowa Wesleyan College this Thursday, Dec. 13, at 7:30 p.m., and Mount Mercy University (Iowa) this Saturday, Dec. 15, at 4 p.m.
