Saint Joseph's College of Maine announces integrated majors in sports communication and business communication

STANDISH, ME (09/23/2011)(readMedia)-- Saint Joseph's College of Maine has announced two new integrated majors, one in business communication and one in sports communication.

The integrated major in business communication is designed for students who want to focus on the branding, e-commerce and digital technology needs of modern business. Business courses will educate students in marketing, management, branding and social media, while communications courses will include writing and public relations, web design and digital media.

Sports communication is designed for students who want to focus on areas such as event planning, promotions, sports facility management and online game coverage. Sports management courses will include marketing, advertising, public relations and event planning for sports, while communications courses will include video production, broadcasting, writing and design.

"The integrated majors will enable students with combined interests in two fields to earn their degree in communications within a broadened program that includes a significant number of courses from the companion area," says Dr. William Yates, chair of the communications department.

As well as the choice of the new integrated majors, the bachelor's degree in communications offers students two concentrations in either new media or journalism/public relations, within a state-of-the-art Mac computer lab.

Saint Joseph's is a liberal arts college on Sebago Lake in southern Maine, 18 miles from Portland, Maine, and two hours from Boston. It was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1912. www.sjcme.edu
