Samantha Sawin Awarded Western New England University Dean's Prize
SPRINGFIELD, MA (09/06/2011)(readMedia)-- Samantha Sawin of Bridgewater, NJ, received third prize in the Western New England University 5th Annual Dean's Prize for Literary and Cultural Studies. Sawin's essay, entitled "Hilda Doolittle's Attempt at Renewal," explores the modernist poetry of Hilda Doolittle, focusing on the ways her work seeks to redefine feminine identity against the backdrop of the traumas of World War II. The Dean's Prize honors the best essays written for 200-level and above courses in the area of literary or cultural criticism as judged by a panel of Department of English faculty.
