San Antonio Student at Washington and Lee Participates in Washington Term

LEXINGTON, VA (05/08/2012)(readMedia)-- Alexandra Fernandez, a junior at Washington and Lee University from San Antonio, Texas, is participating in the University's Washington Term this month.

Fernandez, a graduate of Northside Health Careers High School and an economics major at W&L, is interning with Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida.

W&L's four-week Washington Term Program is divided into three components: the academic course, the internship and the lecture series. Students work four full days a week in their internship offices, and on Friday attend class and lectures. Wednesday evenings are also set aside for class activities.

Students are selected to participate in the Washington Term Program on a competitive basis. The program aims to enhance students' understanding of national politics and governance. Combining the practical experience of a political internship with academic study, it affords deeper insight into the processes and problems of government at the national level.
