San Diego's Nicci Bermudes named CoSIDA/Capital One Women's Soccer Third-Team Academic All-America

AURORA, IL (11/22/2013)(readMedia)-- Aurora University women's soccer team sophomore forward Nicci Bermudes (San Diego, Calif./University City H.S.) was named CoSIDA/Capital One Third-Team Academic All-America.

Capital One Academic All-America teams are selected by CoSIDA member sports information directors based on the student-athletes' academic prowess while being a steady influence on their respective athletic field. To be considered for the honor, the nominated student-athletes are required to maintain a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point average throughout their academic career at AU.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.

Bermudes is a health science major and was named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Offensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-Conference in 2013. Additionally, she was named NACC Scholar-Athlete in 2012-2013. On the season, Bermudes had a team-leading 20 goals, with seven being a game-winning goals, and 13 assists.

The Spartans finished the 2013 season with an18-3 overall and were the 2013 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Champions (co-champs) with a 10-1 record and NACC Tournament Champions.
