WESTMINSTER, MD (07/30/2012)(readMedia)-- Sara Raley, sociology professor at McDaniel College, Westminster, Md., has received the SAGE/ASA Teaching Innovations & Professional Development Award from SAGE Publications and the American Sociological Association (ASA). She is a native of Leonardtown, Md.

Dr. Raley began teaching at McDaniel in 2009. Her teaching and research interests are in the areas of family, gender, sexuality, demography and child well-being. She developed and teaches the sophomore interdisciplinary studies course, "South Park and Contemporary Issues," which uses episodes of Comedy Central's "South Park" television show to explore such controversial social issues as gay marriage, immigration, race, consumerism, business ethics and pornography. She also teaches courses in Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies.
