University of Scranton Scholars in Service

SCRANTON, PA (04/08/2011)(readMedia)-- Sarah Cil, a junior majoring in exercise science from Fairfield, N.J., is one of six University of Scranton students recognized as AmeriCorps Scholars in Service to Pennsylvania for the 2010-2011 academic year. The award honors students who have committed to complete 300 hours of individual service in the community during the academic year. Each student scholar volunteers with one or two area nonprofit organizations where they will perform the majority of their service pledge throughout the year.

The Scholars in Service to Pennsylvania program is a statewide effort to build quality service programs, enhance relationships between college campuses and local communities, and offer Pennsylvania college students the opportunity to serve. Students who complete the 300 hours of service receive AmeriCorps Education award and a partial educational award at the end of their term.

Each year more than 2,850 University of Scranton students perform well over 170,000 service hours.
