Saratoga Springs resident Ashley FitzGibbon is promoted to major in the New York Air National Guard

LATHAM, NY (05/25/2018) Ashley FitzGibbon, a Saratoga Springs resident, was promoted to the rank of major in the New York Air National Guard during a May 24 ceremony at New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs Headquarters here.

FitzGibbon has been serving as New York National Guard Equal Employment Manager and Joint Force Headquarters Sexual Assault Response Coordinator. In this position she reports directly to Major General Anthony German, the Adjutant General of New York, on these issues.

She will now serve as the personnel officer for the New York Air National Guard.

A native of Liverpool, NY, FitzGibbon enlisted in the 174th Attack Wing of the New York Air National Guard base at Hancock Field Air National Guard Base in Syracuse in 2004 and served as a fuel handler. She transferred to the 109th Airlift Wing at Stratton Air National Guard Base in Scotia in 2007.

In 2009 she was commissioned a lieutenant and assigned to the 109th Airlift Wing as a personnel officer. She also served as the wing administrative officer and community manager and chief of information protection.

In 2015 she transferred to Joint Force Headquarters.

FitzGibbon holds a bachelor's degree in social science from SUNY Buffalo and a master's degree in education, childhood and special education from the College of Saint Rose.

Her awards and decorations include the Air Force Commendation Medal , Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and the Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon.

She and her husband Josh have two daughters, Ava and Shay.
