LATHAM, NY (11/24/2015)(readMedia)-- Schuylerville resident Lucian McCarty has been promoted to sergeant in the New York Army National Guard.

McCarty is a full-time Soldier who works as an administrative specialist in the Adjutant General's Office at New York National Guard headquarters in Latham.

He joined the New York Army National Guard in 2013 and trained as motor transport officer.

Prior to his current assignment he was assigned to Company E of the 427th Brigade Support Battalion at the Glenville Armored Forces Reserve Center as an armed truck commander, trained in convoy security. He was the company's Soldier of the Year in 2014.

McCarty is a graduate of SUNY Oswego. He worked as a newspaper reporter at papers in New York, Maine and New Hampshire and most recently worked at The Saratogian in Saratoga Springs. He also wored at Capitol Region BOCES, providing communications services for Tech Valley High School and Mechanicville Central School District before becoming a full time Soldiers in Sept. 2015.

He and his wife Amanda have a son – Atticus-and a daughter, Ada.
