GLENS FALLS, NY (01/26/2009)(readMedia)--

Scott Murphy, Democratic Party activist and Warren County businessman, announced the launch of his campaign to become the Democratic nominee for the 20th Congressional District. At a time of dramatic job loss and record-breaking unemployment, Murphy has created innovative New York economic development projects, helping local businesses expand and bringing badly needed jobs to the region.

Murphy, a Glens Falls resident, has also had extensive government experience. He has worked for two Democratic Governors, serving as deputy chief of staff to one. A graduate of Harvard University, Murphy has worked extensively with public officials at the local, state and federal level to design and implement job creating initiatives.

Murphy has been a catalyst in developing over twenty businesses resulting in the creation of more than 1000 jobs and renewed opportunity for American families. Murphy's expertise in locating and guiding fledgling business ventures into successful economic models has earned him the nickname, "Mr. Jobs."

"That's what I do. I create jobs. I can talk the talk to Wall Street and I've put 1,000 jobs on Main Street," said Murphy. "In Congress, I can instantly plunge into the most sophisticated financial conversation regarding our economic crisis. I won't have to get up to speed; I'm ready to move forward. The 20th Congressional District is a perfect place to grow a thriving economy. We've got a trained and willing work force and shovel-ready sites for corporate development," Murphy stated. "I am ready to take my experience in government and business to Washington and fight for economic and educational opportunities for the people of the 20th CD."

Murphy is committed to the principle that providing a sound, secure and healthy future for our families can be summed up in a simple four letter word: jobs.

"These are tough, painful times for too many Americans. Reforming healthcare and education, guaranteeing the future of Social Security, and insuring benefits for our veterans are all priorities and it all starts by creating economic opportunity and stability for our families and communities," Murphy stated. "My job is to put the 20th CD to work."

Scott resides in Glens Falls with wife, Jennifer Hogan, and their three children Simone, Lux, and Duke. He serves as President of the Upstate Venture Association of New York and is on the Board of Directors of the Glens Falls Civic Center.
