Seminole's Cassie Perez receives two scholarships at East Central University

Cassie Perez, right of Seminole, was the recipient of the Dr. Tim Green Centennial Education Scholarship and the Dr. Donnie and Shirley Nero Student Teaching Award during East Central University Department of Education's recent 2018 Spring Awards Luncheon. The Dr. Tim Green Scholarship is awarded to an elementary education student who plans to become a reading specialist. If no education student qualifies, the next preference is given to a student planning on a coaching career. Green was a longtime member of the ECU community, serving first as a teacher in the Education Department and later as athletic director for several years. The scholarship was established by his family, friends and colleagues in his honor and memory. The Dr. Donnie and Shirley Nero Award goes to a minority education student in his/her semester of student teaching. Donnie and Shirley have been a very visible influence in Oklahoma higher education and they provide yearly funding to assist a student who will be teaching in the near future. Pictured with Perez is Dr. Phyllis Isaacs, chair of the ECU Department of Education.
