Caroline Stutz of Kearney, NJ Receives a $5,000 Scholarship from Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Educational Foundation

PHILADELPHIA, PA (11/11/2011)(readMedia)-- Caroline Stutz, a senior math and secondary education major from Kearny, NJ, was selected by the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFEA) Educational Foundation to receive a $5,000 AFCEA STEM Teacher scholarship. Caroline was one of 50 students who received the scholarship from the AFCEA.

Recipients of the scholarship must hold an overall 3.0 GPA, be attending an accredited college or university and be pursuing a degree for the purpose of teaching a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) subjects in a secondary school. Recipients also needed to submit two letters of recommendation.

"Caroline is a scholar, an athlete, an initiator and a leader at Chestnut Hill" says Merilyn Ryan, SSJ, Ph.D., professor of mathematics. "She brings energy, focus and intention as well as talent to everything she does, which is at least part of why she is so successful."

Caroline Stutz is an active member of the Chestnut Hill College community, where she participates as an orientation leader and co-founded the service group "Griffins for Paws." A varsity athlete in high school, she is also a member of the College's World Cup Quidditch team, serves on the residence hall council, and is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.

"As a math major and secondary education minor, I knew that this was the perfect opportunity for me," says Caroline. "Although you spend time thoughtfully applying to scholarships, you never expect that you'll be the recipient. So, you can imagine my excitement when I received the good news from the AFCEA. I am both honored and grateful that the AFCEA awarded me with the STEM Teacher's Scholarship."

The AFCEA Educational Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational incentives, opportunities and assistance for people engaged in information management, communications and intelligence efforts and fostering excellence in education particularly in the "hard science" disciplines. The mission of the foundation is to support development of engineers and technical personnel through selective training, scholarships, awards, prizes and grants for educational activities of unique and high value and professional educational programs.
