QUEENS, NY (05/28/2008)(readMedia)-- On Wednesday, June 11, 2008, hundreds of Queens K-12 students will gather to demonstrate how they made a difference in their communities through service. The Queens Service Learning Initiative, a partnership between Children for Children and the Department of Education’s Queens Integrated Service Center, is a program designed to engage students in classroom-based service projects that address community needs.

- Declining civic engagement
- Homelessness
- Pollution
- Intolerance
- And much more!
At this celebration, students will celebrate and reflect on their service experience and participate in an array of hands-on service projects such as:
- Decorating flower pots and planting flower seeds for senior citizens
- Making healthy foods plates for elementary youth
- Stuffing pillows and making cards for homeless families
- Designing reusable tote bags to show care for the environment
