Seven Earn Postseason Honors for GCC Women's Soccer

BATAVIA, NY (11/30/2016)(readMedia)-- Seven members of the GCC women's soccer team were recognized with postseason honors after the Cougars compiled a 12-6 overall record and a trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region III tournament this fall. The honors included three selections to the all-region team and seven selections to the All-Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) Team.

Sophomores Gabriella Garcea (Churchville) and Katlynne Tubo (Wilson) and freshman Karli Phillips (Alexander) were all named to the All-Region Second Team.

Garcea, a midfielder, tallied the fourth-highest assists total in the region, assisting on 11 goals this fall. She led Genesee in total points with 25, goals with seven, and assists. Garcea played in all 18 games this year and made 17 starts.

Phillips helped the GCC defense limit opponents to 0.83 goals per game, the third lowest average in the region. She contributed four points from her defensive position, scoring one goal and assisting on two. She made 17 starts and appeared in all 18 games for the Cougars.

Tubo set the goalkeeper record for most career shutouts in school history (19) after posting 10 clean sheets this season. She made 131 saves this fall, the fourth highest total in the region, and recorded the second-best save percentage at .897.

In additional to all-region honors, Garcea and Tubo were named to the All-WNYAC First Team and Phillips was selected to the Second Team. Joining them were teammates Sarah Williams (Caledonia), Carly Repka (Attica) and Jayna Wright (Alexander), who were named to the all-conference first team, and Allison Duhow (Newfane) who was named to the second team.

Williams was second on the team in goals scored with six, assists with eight, and total points win 20. She scored one game-winning goal and was one of only two players to start all 18 games for GCC this season. Repka finished the year with five points, two goals and one assist, Wright played in 16 games during her freshman campaign as a defender, and Duhow scored two goals from her midfield position as a freshman.

Genesee was ranked in the NJCAA National Poll for seven consecutive weeks this season, reaching as high as No. 3. The Cougars lost in the quarterfinals of the Region III playoffs to Herkimer College, 1-0.
