Seven From GCC Women's Soccer Named to All-Region and All-Conference Teams

BATAVIA, NY (11/16/2015)(readMedia)-- Seven members of the 2015 Genesee Community College women's soccer team were recently honored as all-region and all-conference selections for their performance throughout the season.

Named to the All-Region III First Team were sophomore forward Shawna Adams (Bergen, NY), sophomore midfielder Kayla Doyle (Albion, NY) and freshman defender Carly Repka (Attica, NY) and named to the all-region second team was sophomore defender Claudia Passarell (Holley, NY).

Adams led the country in goals scored with 30, a single-season record for the College. She also led the country in total points with 72, which tied the school record for most points in a season. She recorded multiple goals in nine games this fall and accounted for two game-winners. Adams played in and started all 17 games this season for the Cougars.

Doyle led the region in assists with 16, which was tied for fourth in the country. She scored 10 goals and recorded 36 points, the ninth highest total in the region. She played in and started all 17 games this fall.

Repka and Passarell helped anchor a defense that posted eight shutout wins this season. Genesee allowed an average of 1.00 goals per game, the fourth best average in the region and 10th best average in the country.

Along with all-region honors, Adams, Doyle, Repka and Passarell were also named to the All-Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) Team. Adams, Doyle and Repka were named to the all-conference first team and Passarell was named to the all-conference second team. Freshman forward Gabriella Garcea (Churchville, NY), sophomore midfielder Nikki Mauro (Holley, NY) and freshman goalkeeper Katlynne Tubo (Wilson, NY) were also named to the all-conference first team.

Garcea scored six goals and added four assists, totaling 16 points this fall. She played in all 17 games and made 16 starts.

Mauro started 16 out of the 17 games she appeared in and recorded 15 points, scoring four goals and adding seven assists.

Tubo posted an 11-6 record including eight shutouts in her freshman campaign. She made 96 saves on the season, a percentage of .850 and allowed an average of just 1.00 goals per game.

Genesee finished the year with an 11-6 record and advanced to the Region III Semifinals. The Cougars were ranked as high as No. 4 in the NJCAA National Poll this fall.
